Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors (三皇五帝) is a term used in ancient Chinese history to refer to a period before the Xia Dynasty (c. 2070 - c. 1600 BCE), when legendary rulers were said to have reigned in China. The Three Sovereigns (三皇) refers to Suiren, Fuxi, and Shennong, while the Five Emperors (五帝) refers to Yellow Emperor, Zhuanxu, Di Ku, Yao, and Shun.
These legendary rulers were believed to have introduced agriculture, medicine, music, writing, and other important aspects of civilization to ancient China. They were also said to have possessed supernatural powers, such as the ability to control the weather and communicate with ghosts and spirits.
The existence and deeds of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors are mostly based on myth and legend, and their historicity is debated among scholars. However, they have been an important part of Chinese mythology and folklore for thousands of years, and their influence can be seen in many aspects of traditional Chinese culture, such as feng shui and Chinese astrology.
